PRINTING SERVICES TECHNICIAN III

 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs highly complex (senior-level) reproduction or camera work. Work involves operating and maintaining reproduction and bindery equipment, testing and troubleshooting equipment, and coordinating the scheduling and completion of print orders and other duplication services. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Coordinates production activities.

Operates a variety of duplicating machines, cameras, and bindery and plate-making equipment.

Determines procedures and methods for handling job orders.

Provides technical advice.

Maintains maintenance schedule for equipment.

Checks quality of finished jobs to ensure adherence to standards.

Produces negatives from electronic or magnetic data media.

Troubleshoots equipment problems and takes corrective action.

Maintains production logs, prepares reports, and orders supplies.

Assists in the preparation of production reports.

May make recommendations for equipment purchases.

May supervise the work of others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in reproduction work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the types, varieties, and uses of papers, inks, chemicals, developers, and fixers used in the operation of duplicating and reproduction equipment.

Skill in the operation of bindery, duplicating, and reproduction equipment; and in the use of a computer and applicable software.

Ability to adjust equipment for specific operations, to perform maintenance on equipment, to communicate effectively, and to supervise the work of others.
