PRINTING SERVICES TECHNICIAN V

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs highly advanced (senior-level) reproduction or camera work. Work involves overseeing the operation and maintenance of various reproduction and bindery equipment, testing and troubleshooting equipment, and coordinating the scheduling of print orders and other duplication services. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Oversees production activities, determines job priorities, and schedules print orders.

Oversees operations of data communications network and computer console.

Sets up, operates, and maintains a variety of cameras and simple-to-complex reproduction and bindery equipment.

Inspects job layouts and checks quality of finished jobs to ensure adherence to standards.

Investigates, researches, and troubleshoots unusual and technical production problems; and performs maintenance and repairs on equipment.

Establishes production standards and evaluates production processes for effectiveness and efficiency.

Reviews and edits images and documents.

Performs quality control and examines products for defects.

Prepares and reviews production reports.

Troubleshoots unusual and technical production problems.

May evaluate work progress and ensure that all phases of operation are satisfactorily performed according to schedule.

May make recommendations on budget, capital expenditures, and purchase of supplies and equipment.

May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in reproduction work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the types, varieties, and uses of papers, inks, chemicals, developers, and fixers used in the operation of duplicating and reproduction equipment.

Skill in the operation of bindery, duplicating, and reproduction equipment; and in the use of a computer and applicable software.

Ability to adjust equipment for specific operations; to perform maintenance on equipment; to communicate effectively; and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
