STATISTICIAN I

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs routine (journey-level) statistical work. Work involves compiling, analyzing, and reporting data for statistical reports. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Conducts and administers surveys and other data gathering methods.

Prepares, compiles, tests, analyzes, and interprets statistical data.

Prepares and analyzes statistical reports, charts, and tables.

Maintains statistical records and databases.

Assists in planning data collection methods and sampling methods for projects.

Assists in evaluating statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.

May process data for statistical modeling and graphic analysis.

May prepare professional papers and reports.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in compiling, analyzing, and interpreting statistical data. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field is generally preferred.  Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of statistics and mathematics, of statistical methods and formulas, of research techniques, and of the sources and availability of information.

Skill in using computers, software, and statistical tools and databases.

Ability to develop statistical reports, to compile and analyze statistical data, to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis, and to communicate effectively.
