STATISTICIAN II

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs complex (journey-level) statistical work. Work involves planning, developing, and presenting statistical data and reports. May train others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Plans, develops, and presents statistical data and reports.

Plans data collection methods for specific projects and determines the types and sizes of sample groups to be used. 

Conducts and administers surveys and other data gathering methods.

Prepares, compiles, tests, analyzes, and describes statistical data.

Prepares and analyzes statistical reports, charts, and tables.

Prepares professional papers and reports.

Maintains statistical records and databases.

Assists in evaluating statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.

May train others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in compiling, analyzing, and interpreting statistical data. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of statistics and mathematics, of statistical methods and formulas, of research techniques, and of the sources and availability of information.

Skill in using computers, software, and statistical tools and databases.

Ability to develop statistical reports, to compile and analyze statistical data, to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis, to communicate effectively, and to train others.
