STATISTICIAN III

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs advanced (senior-level) statistical work. Work involves coordinating the planning, development, analysis, and presentation of statistical data and reports. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Coordinates the collection, compilation, analysis, and interpretation of statistical data.

Coordinates the design of statistical research projects.

Coordinates work with other departments.

Plans, develops, initiates, and presents statistical data, reports, and processes. 

Develops plans, policies, and procedures for analyzing and interpreting statistical data.

Directs the selection of data collection methods, and determines the types and sizes of sample groups to be used. 

Evaluates statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.

May supervise the work of others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in developing, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting statistical data. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of statistics and mathematics, of statistical methods and formulas, of research techniques, and of the sources and availability of information.

Skill in using computers, software, and statistical tools and databases.

Ability to organize, coordinate, and direct statistical research projects and reports; to evaluate statistical data;  to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis; to direct the development of data collection methods; to communicate effectively; and to supervise the work of others.
