STATISTICIAN IV

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs highly advanced (senior-level) statistical work. Work involves overseeing the planning, development, analysis, and presentation of statistical data and reports.  May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.  Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Oversees the development and testing of experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods.

Oversees and coordinates work with other departments.

Oversees or conducts the collection, compilation, analysis, and interpretation of statistical data.

Develops plans, policies, and procedures for analyzing and interpreting statistical data.

Designs research projects and develops and tests data-gathering designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods.

Directs the selection of data collection methods for specific projects, and determines the types and sizes of sample groups to be used. 

Evaluates sources of information to determine any limitations on reliability, validity, or usability.

Evaluates statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.

May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in developing, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting statistical data.  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field is generally preferred.  Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of statistics and mathematics, of statistical methods and formulas, of research techniques, and of the sources and availability of information.

Skill in using computers, software, and statistical tools and databases.

Ability to organize, coordinate, and direct statistical research projects and reports; to evaluate statistical data;  to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis; to direct the development of data collection methods; to communicate effectively; and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
