TRAINING ASSISTANT

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs entry-level training assistance work.  Work involves assisting with the preparation of educational and training programs.  Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Provides technical and administrative work in support of educational and training programs.

Compiles reports on training programs and maintains training records.

Organizes and prepares materials and supplies for training courses such as notebooks, handouts, flip-charts, projectors, laptops, or other resources.

Assists with scheduling and registration for training courses and conferences, and with preparing and updating course rosters.

Assists in planning and developing training, staff development, and continuing education programs.

Assists in reviewing the effectiveness of staff development programs and recommending modifications as needed.

May perform research or compile materials for training development.

May coordinate and maintain a schedule for training presentations.

May prepare articles for in-house publications.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in training assistance work.  Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent supplemented by coursework in human resources management, organizational development, or education is generally preferred.  Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of training procedures and techniques and of education principles, practices, and techniques.

Skill in instructing others and in the use of a computer and applicable software.

Ability to formulate learning objectives, to develop training objectives, to assess the effectiveness of training, and to communicate effectively.
