Performs highly advanced (senior-level) architectural work.  Work involves directing and overseeing the planning, design, and implementation of architectural and construction programs and projects.  May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.  Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.


Oversees or designs and plans the layout of architectural and/or construction projects, including preparing drawings and specification documents.

Oversees or determines architectural projects and programs, including functional and spatial requirements of new structures or renovations.

Oversees the development, design, and implementation of statewide agency architectural and/or construction programs.

Oversees or participates in the selection of consultants and contractors.

Oversees or performs inspections.

Oversees, coordinates, and manages architectural consultants. 

Provides architectural and construction management consultation services.

Prepares information regarding design, structure specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time.

Develops policies and procedures.

Resolves problems and implements resolutions in specifications and plans.

May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.

Performs related work as assigned.


Experience and Education

Experience in architectural and construction management work.  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or related degree in a program accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board or National Architectural Accrediting Board.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of architectural and design principles, techniques, and procedures; of construction management; of engineering specifications related to design work; and of mathematical applications.

Skill in the use of architectural tools and in problem solving. 

Ability to visualize architectural designs; to apply architectural concepts to plan, coordinate, and oversee projects; to conduct inspections; to apply architectural concepts; to communicate effectively; and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.

Registration, Certification, or Licensure

Must be registered as an Architect or Landscape Architect by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners.
