HEALTH ASSISTANT

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs entry-level psychological work.  Work involves assisting in providing psychological services to patients.  Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Administers, scores, analyzes, and reports results of non-projective and performance tests.

Participates in interpreting psychological methods and procedures.

Participates in conferences for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Addresses professional and civic groups on mental health aspects.

Assists in performing psychological diagnostic and treatment functions.

May assist with psychological research projects and program evaluations.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in psychological work.  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in psychology or a related field is generally preferred.  Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of personality theories, of the dynamics of behavior, of projective tests, of counseling techniques and procedures, and of behavioral research methodology.

Ability to conduct psychological diagnoses, to administer psychological treatment, and to communicate effectively.
