ORTHOPEDIC EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN I

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs entry-level orthopedic work. Work involves assisting in designing and constructing tools for use in the production of adaptive equipment, creating blueprints for prototype fabrication or modification, and fabricating and repairing orthopedic equipment. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Manufactures customized, modified, and adaptive equipment.

Fabricates and repairs orthopedic equipment.

Measures individuals with disabilities using adaptive measuring devices.

Conducts preventive maintenance checks on power and hand tools, making minor repairs as appropriate.

Maintains supplies and repair parts.

Picks up and delivers customized adaptive equipment.

Assists in casting clients for splints and measures clients for customized adaptive devices.

Assists in fitting of adaptive equipment.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in orthopedic equipment manufacture and repair work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of orthopedic equipment and of maintenance techniques and procedures.

Skill in the use of tools and equipment for the manufacture and maintenance of adaptive equipment.

Ability to fabricate and repair orthopedic equipment, to prepare specifications, and to communicate effectively.
