ORTHOPEDIC EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN II

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs complex (journey-level) orthopedic work. Work involves designing and constructing tools for use in the production of adaptive equipment, creating blueprints for prototype fabrication or modification, and assisting in evaluating individuals with disabilities for adaptive equipment. May train others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Manufactures customized, modified, and adaptive equipment.

Fabricates and repairs orthopedic equipment.

Measures individuals with disabilities using adaptive measuring devices.

Conducts fittings of adaptive equipment.

Participates in designing and preparing plans and specifications for custom and adaptive equipment.

Assists in planning programs for the manufacture and preventive maintenance of modified and customized adaptive equipment or orthopedic devices.

May coordinate production, maintenance, and repair programs.

May train others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in orthopedic equipment manufacture and repair work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of orthopedic equipment, of maintenance techniques and procedures, of anatomical terminology, and of occupational and physical therapy procedures.

Skill in the use of tools and equipment for the manufacture and maintenance of adaptive equipment.

Ability to fabricate and repair orthopedic equipment, to prepare specifications, to organize preventive maintenance programs, to communicate effectively, and to train others.
