AGRICULTURE SPECIALIST VI

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs highly advanced (senior-level) agricultural work. Work involves overseeing field crop and livestock operations and planning agricultural activities to meet production goals and schedules. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Directs and oversees agricultural activities.

Oversees the maintenance and repair of equipment, buildings, and storage facilities.

Oversees the maintenance of records related to farm operations and the preparation of related reports.

Plans and directs farm program operations.

Inspects farm operations, reviews reports, and approves requisitions for supplies and equipment.

Advises management of production output, problems, and losses, and prepares related reports.

Develops and implements training programs for staff and offenders.

Responds to emergency situations.

Searches for escaped offenders, transports offenders, and performs correctional and custodial support functions as needed.

May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in agricultural work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of agricultural methods, procedures, and principles and of animal and plant disease control methods.

Skill in the operation and maintenance of agricultural equipment.

Ability to direct crop and livestock production; to evaluate farm operations and recommend improvements; to prepare reports; to communicate effectively; and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
