REHABILITATION THERAPY TECHNICIAN II

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs routine (journey-level) habilitative and rehabilitative therapy work. Work involves providing habilitative and rehabilitative services for clients with mental impairments. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Studies clients’ behavior to determine the need for and value of therapeutic activities and notes clients’ progress.

Instructs clients in therapeutic activities, such as arts, crafts, drama, music, printing, sewing, and recreation; and provides feedback regarding clients’ progress.

Prepares materials for therapeutic activities and maintains an adequate supply of materials.

Accompanies clients to and from activities and appointments. 

Performs housekeeping duties in therapeutic activity areas.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in therapeutic work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of therapeutic methods and techniques in the rehabilitative therapy area of specialization, and of mental illness and mental disabilities.

Ability to provide rehabilitative therapy and to communicate effectively.
